Junior Achievement Uganda (JA Uganda), in partnership with Prudential Uganda, marked World Savings Day on October 31, 2024, at Cresta International Christian School with a unique and engaging literacy session aimed at empowering young learners.
Children aged 9-12 participated in the event, where they received financial education based on Junior Achievement’s renowned Cha-Ching program. The program equips young people with essential money management skills by focusing on four foundational pillars: earning, saving, spending, and donating.
The session emphasized the value of cultivating good financial habits from an early age, reinforcing how these skills lay the groundwork for responsible financial behavior in adulthood. Through interactive activities and age-appropriate discussions, students explored concepts of earning and budgeting, learned the importance of setting aside money for the future, and understood how to give back to their communities.

Empowering Future Generations
By bringing the Cha-Ching program to schools like Cresta International, JA Uganda and Prudential Uganda are working to bridge the financial literacy gap in Uganda, empowering young minds with skills to thrive financially. As the students absorbed lessons on budgeting and community impact, the day underscored a critical message: building sustainable habits early on is key to a more financially stable and responsible society.
As the event concluded, it was evident that the young participants left with a new understanding of money management and a sense of responsibility for their financial futures. This celebration of World Savings Day was a reminder of the importance of financial literacy in shaping empowered, resilient, and future-ready youth.

About World Savings Day
World Savings Day, first established in 1924 by the World Society of Savings Banks in Milan, Italy, is celebrated on October 31 each year. The day was created to promote the importance of savings among citizens worldwide, particularly focusing on educating children and young people on the merits of sound financial habits. The goal is to foster a culture of saving that promotes financial stability and prepares individuals for a secure future.
The theme for World Savings Day 2024, “Sustainable Finance: Building a Better Future,” encourages individuals and communities to make financial decisions that not only ensure personal well-being but also contribute to environmental and economic sustainability. This theme resonated strongly with the day’s activities at Cresta International Christian School, where students learned not only about personal finance but also the broader impact of responsible money management on their future and their communities.
