A total of 1,800 students in different classes have been reached to, most inspired to pursue different careers, with some students expressing passion to become doctors, neurosergions, pilots, lawyers, journalists among others.

The Junior Achievement (JA) Club at Seeta High School, Mbalala Campus, recently organized an impactful awareness event to address the challenges posed by sickle cell disease. This initiative, led by the students themselves, not only aimed to educate their peers about the condition but also showcased the power of youth-led action in creating meaningful change.

Sickle cell disease is a genetic blood disorder that affects millions of people worldwide, including many in Uganda. It is characterized by the production of abnormally shaped red blood cells, which can lead to severe pain, frequent infections, and complications such as organ damage. Despite its prevalence, awareness and understanding of the condition remain limited in many communities.

To tackle this issue, the JA Club members took the lead in organizing a comprehensive awareness campaign. The event featured informative sessions that shed light on the causes, symptoms, and management of sickle cell disease. These sessions were designed to empower students with knowledge, enabling them to become advocates for better health practices within their communities.

Ndagire Desire Josephine, the school club’s president highlights that in addition to raising awareness, the students demonstrated remarkable compassion and commitment by launching a fundraising drive. Through their collective efforts, they managed to raise over UGX 2,000,000 from their fellow students and staff members. These funds will be directed toward supporting individuals and families affected by sickle cell disease, as well as contributing to ongoing efforts to combat the condition.

This event highlights the broader mission of Junior Achievement Uganda to empower young people to take initiative and drive positive change in their communities. By supporting such student-led activities, Junior Achievement continues to inspire the next generation of leaders to address pressing societal issues with creativity and dedication.

According to Mrs. Milly Mugenyi Anguria, the school club patron, the success of the Seeta High School JA Club’s initiative serves as a powerful reminder of the potential of youth to make a difference. It also underscores the importance of fostering a culture of empathy, awareness, and action among students.

As the students at Seeta High School demonstrated, creating a brighter future requires collaboration, determination, and a deep sense of responsibility. Their efforts are a testament to the impact of Junior Achievement’s programs in nurturing socially conscious and proactive individuals.
