About the Program
The JA Company Program is the flagship program of Junior Achievement. The model helps young people aged 13-18 appreciate and better understand the role of business in our society. With the support and guidance of volunteers from the local business community, JA Company Program provides basic economic education for high school students. It unlocks the innate ability in high school students to fill a need or solve a problem in their community by launching a business venture and unleashing their entrepreneurial spirit.
By organizing and operating an actual business enterprise, students not only learn how businesses function, but they also learn about the structure of the free enterprise system and the benefits it provides.
JA Company Program is a 15-week course and is recommended for high school students. It is designed to inspire and nurture entrepreneurial skills, financial literacy, and work readiness amongst the youth.
By utilizing a learning model that incorporates 21st-century technology and contemporary teaching methods, students learn in ways that foster innovation and ingenuity. Volunteer role models connect with students in both traditional and digital classrooms while sharing their personal and professional experiences to further ignite students’ entrepreneurial spirit.
At the end of the program, the students that complete the program successfully and submit an annual report to JA Uganda qualify for a regional competition and the best student company from each region will represent their school in the National Company of the Year competition in Kampala. The winning school will go on to represent Uganda in the African Regional Company of the year competition with other JA Member Nations in Africa.
